WATCH TODAY’S SERVICE
I am not sure that it is still true, but I remember well the “go to gift” for graduates a few years back. I cannot count the number of times I handed out Dr. Seuss’s book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, to graduating seniors at church and at baccalaureate ceremonies.
Most are familiar with the book. It is a reminder of the great things that are in store for us and the opportunities that abound in our future. There is, however, one “useless” place that will trip us up on our way: “The Waiting Place.” It is that place where everyone is “just waiting…” You painfully work your way through that page of rhyme until you turn the page to quickly hear: “NO! That’s not for you!”
For so many of us, the waiting place is or can be the worst place. We are right there with Dr. Seuss. In today’s sermon, we are going to visit the early disciples in the first chapter of Acts as the risen Jesus tells them they need to wait. Maybe the waiting place is not the worst place after all. Join us for worship and together we will be reminded that although the waiting place is not the place to stay, but it can be a place of new life and power. – In Christ, Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
