FRIENDS OF THE HOMELESS

HELPING RICHMONDERS IN NEED

Richmond Friends of the Homeless is a private, non-profit association devoted to making a difference in the lives of the less advantaged. It began over 20 years ago with Shawnee Hansen serving lunch in south Richmond from the trunk of her car. Today, this organization serves over 1,500 meals each week at two locations; one south of Richmond and one downtown. Reveille UMC partners with Friends of the Homeless to serve a midday meal and provide bagged lunches for FOH each month.

FOURTH THURSDAYS | MIDDAY MEAL

On the fourth Thursday of each month, Reveille serves a midday meal to 180 people at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on North First Street. Individuals or groups may assist by:

  • Preparing potato casseroles and desserts. Casseroles may be made ahead and left in the fellowship hall refrigerator for the meal. Homemade desserts also are welcome and can be left in the fellowship hall kitchen. Be sure to mark with “FOH.” Potato Casserole Recipe
  • Serving the meal. If you would like to help serve, plan on being in the fellowship hall at 11:15 am on the day of the meal. We will carpool to the feeding site and return by 1:00 pm.
  • Giving financial support.

How to help?
Contact the person organizing that month’s meal for more information about the midday meal (see list below) or sign up to provide food or help serve the meal on the signup sheet in the welcome center one or two Sundays prior to the meal.
