TODAY’S SERMON

This past Friday was the anniversary of 9/11. Most of us remember the day very clearly, and where we were when we watched those fateful images of the twin towers falling. Do you also remember the Sunday after? I remember how full our church was that day. We had many visitors and the trend continued for several weeks.

But then things changed. People stopped coming in the same way. In fact, church attendance across the nation began to plunge within just a few weeks and in fact dropped below the pre-9/11 level. Perhaps this gives us pause as we reflect on our current challenges with a pandemic.

When this is all over and we are back to some semblance of normal, how will we be different? Will we change at all? The Scriptures teach us that during these seasons of situational humility, there are ripe opportunities for us to make powerful and needed spiritual changes in ourselves and our world. But will we do it?

Today in worship, we are going to speak to this. Using some familiar passages from Genesis, we will look at ourselves and our God through the lenses of COVID-19 to see what we can learn. This pandemic is hard, but if we can learn a few things from this season of challenge, perhaps we will climb out of this pit even stronger. Come join us for worship and let’s talk about it. – In Christ, Lead Pastor Pete Moon
