WATCH TODAY’S SERVICE

This past week, I was running late for a meeting and rushing to my car in the parking lot here at Reveille.  As I did, I overheard the noise and laughter of many children in our “quad” area and had to stop and look.  It really was one of those wonderful God moments.  There was all sorts of teachers and some parents gathered under a perfect blue sky, a seventy-degree day, complete with sun shining, and a gentle breeze.  The children were rehearsing for their final event next week.  They were all sprawled around the stage, masks hanging off, rolling around, with eyes everywhere but on their director.  Their music was still of course beautiful.  I spoke briefly with the teachers there, who had wonderful smiles.  I walked to my car (now even later for my meeting) simply thanking God for his goodness and the beauty of that very moment of preschool children singing at the church.

Today is Pentecost Sunday for us.  We will once again remember the story of how the Holy Spirit came upon the believers and equipped them to speak of the “wonders of God” in a language that could be heard by all the different peoples and nations around them.

In our increasingly divided culture, where the language of anger and division is becoming so prominent, I find it even more important for the people of God to be equipped to speak of these same wonders into a culture that knows so little of it.

Come join us for worship now. We are going to be reminded of how we might be a Pentecostal people in the best sense: still able to see and proclaim the wonder of God that we see in a simple preschool gathering, to a world that has forgotten to look for it.  I look forward to seeing you there! – In Christ, Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
