WATCH TODAY’S SERVICE
This week, we were preparing our Holy Week services in the sanctuary. We happened to turn the lights down briefly and I noticed this scene (photo to the left) and just had to capture it.
I find that picture highlights the confusing themes of Palm Sunday. There is the joyous celebration of the palms. There is still some inspirational light behind those palms. At the same time, there is this cloaked cross somewhere in the background, and the foreboding red images of the blood that will be shed there. In the image you can almost hear the joyous shouts as Jesus enters into Jerusalem. There are also undertones of a cross at the end of this journey and soon, this crowd that now shouts “Hosanna” will shout “crucify!”
This week in worship, we are going to recognize that confusion, but also highlight one thing that is abundantly clear on Jesus’ ride into Jerusalem 2000 years ago: something that can yet offer clarity, direction, and power in the midst of all the confusing images then and now. Join us for worship now! – In Christ, Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
