WATCH TODAY’S SERVICE
Recently I was reading a New York Times article and realized that my perspective has become dated (though that happens more and more these days). The article was echoing a number of pieces out there saying that we ought to stop asking that classic question of our children, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
While the discussion might arguably go a bit far, it does bring up a thoughtful point: Do we really want our children to define themselves primarily by what they do or will do? Wouldn’t it be better for our children to instead ponder the kind of person they want to be when they grow up?
All this can offer a great discussion but when you think about it, perhaps the question also applies to all of us, young and old as we begin to think about our post-pandemic lives. While we still have a ways to go, it is not too soon to ask ourselves what kind of person we want to be after COVID is over. To be sure, this pandemic has been hard. At the same time, it offers each of us the possibility of learning, of growing, or to use the Biblical language, “to become new again.”
Today, we are going to start a new sermon series entitled “New.” We will be reminded of the way that God calls us to “forget the former things…See I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18-19).
Come join us for worship in these weeks to come. What do you want to do be when we rise up out of this pandemic? Let’s get together and talk about it today! – In Christ, Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
