TODAY’S SERMON

Do you remember that old movie with Jack Nicholson entitled “As Good as it Gets”? There is a great scene where Melvin (Jack’s character) bursts into his psychiatrist’s office in the midst of an obsessive compulsive meltdown. After being asked to make an appointment and return, he looks into the sea of hurting patients in the waiting room and asks the theme question of the movie and perhaps an engaging question for us: “What if this is as good as it gets?”

The answer from our reading and worship this weekend is a clear and rousing no. In contrast to Melvin’s question, Jesus speaks of two people who find more than what they were ever looking for, described as a pearl and as treasure. They are so excited they are willing to sell everything they possess to have it. The good news, literally, is that this same treasure is abundantly available to all of us right here, and right now.

But…we have to be willing to look for it. Join us today for our online worship and let’s take a look. Let’s see how Jesus answers Jack’s (and our) question. Maybe there is pearl waiting for all of us. – Lead Pastor Pete Moon
