TODAY’S SERMON

Over the last several weeks, I have had the privilege of sitting down over coffee with several of our Richmond Police Department Officers. Lt. William Phibbs, Sgt. J. Morgan Brown, and Sgt. Anthony Franklin met with me to speak of their stories, lives, and challenges as police officers in this season of unrest and tension.

The conversations have been fascinating and enlightening. I was particularly intrigued to hear Sgt. Franklin’s story and testimony of faith. As our discussion ended, he said to me an important part of healing is simply doing what we were doing. His church, he said, was intrigued by our meeting and excited to know that he was meeting with me. He told them and offered to me, his belief that during these uncertain times, black and white people need to simply sit down and talk together, hear the stories, and form relationships.

That is also why I am excited about this weekend’s worship. The sermon is very different. I sat down with our two partner church pastors, Bishop Larry Branch of Love Center of Unity Full Gospel Church, International and Senior Pastor Rev. Keith E. Edmonds, Sr. of Koinonia Christian Church. Together we take a look at that famous question that Pontius Pilate asked of Jesus: “What is Truth?”

In our very complicated and political season, I think you will find their responses timely and profound. I look forward to having you in worship with us today! – In Christ, Lead Pastor Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
