TODAY’S SERMON
Years ago, before we were married, my wife Lynn was a counselor at a camp in Massachusetts. It was run by an amazing woman, Faith Willard. In the summer Faith worked at the camp, and the rest of the year, she served as a missionary with widows in Bangladesh. In the early days of our married life, Lynn and I supported her financially. It wasn’t a lot but still every month, we would receive the pictures and stories of lives being changed in the midst of such poverty and struggle. Those pictures kept coming, and over the years, we kept supporting her work.
As life unfolded for us, the finances were harder with all the challenges of a large family. I distinctly remember the monthly bill paying time because my kids would regularly joke at my routine. Trying to keep a good attitude, I would put Christian music on loud as I crunched those challenging and typically frustrating numbers. But also, I had a habit of saving that check to Bangladesh for last. After paying too much for too many things that I wasn’t sure were making a difference, when I wrote that check, I knew lives were being changed, and that women on the other side of the world were finding hope and finding Jesus. I was investing in something that I knew really mattered.
Today, we are continuing our sermon series on stewardship, celebrating that there is within us, a desire to matter, to leave the world better than we found it. Come join us as we speak to the blessing of giving and of being used by God in a way that goes beyond us. I am looking forward to seeing you! – In Christ, Lead Pastor Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
