TODAY’S SERMON

Have you ever met a person with “generous eyes?” Most of us have had the privilege of knowing someone who is generous, sometimes extravagantly so. There is a certain abundance of kindness and laughter behind those eyes. But it isn’t just the look. Those kind eyes reveal a spirit that gives of self and of things.

I remember a time when Lynn and I were in seminary. Money was tight and kids were arriving almost as often as tuition bills for seminary. Typically, at the most challenging points, there would be a surprise check from someone or from our church back home. Thirty years later, I still remember the generosity and timeliness of those gifts and I see the faces behind them. They all have generous eyes.

In our text for worship this week, Jesus spoke of our eyes as “healthy” or “unhealthy” and characterized them as such by the way we handle our finances. According to Jesus, healthy eyes come to life and light because of a generous and giving spirit within.

All of us want that when we look in the mirror. Today in worship, we will speak together more about what those eyes entail and how we might find our way to that healthy place. – In Christ, Lead Pastor Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
