TODAY’S SERMON
One of my favorite characters in the Bible is an unnamed woman whose story concludes the book of Proverbs. You may have heard of her at many a Mother’s Day sermon or perhaps a memorial service. She is the one who works hard, takes care of her family, serves the poor, and does a host of other amazing things. The list is inspiring but my favorite characterization comes in verse 23: “She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
I would wager that most people, perhaps most of us, can’t even imagine doing that right now. As we look to a very different Thanksgiving and Christmas and a pandemic that has now doubled down, laughter around the coming months is simply not even on the radar. Even so, the image is appealing.
This weekend in worship, we are going to take a look at a very familiar Psalm, and look for some ways that we might once again reclaim our joy. Laughter is a beautiful thing and it belongs in the heart of the faithful. Let’s get together in worship and see if we can find some of that joy, no matter what the days to come hold in store for us. Join us! – In Christ, Lead Pastor Rev. Dr. Pete Moon
