TODAY’S SERMON

Today in worship, we find ourselves in a God moment. As I referenced in my email last week, we recorded our worship prior to the chaos in Washington and as a result, we were not able to address the issue as specifically as we would like to in the service. Nevertheless, God is good and is ahead of us. Rev. Dr. F. Douglas Powe, Jr., from Wesley Seminary will be offering the sermon. He recorded this a number of weeks ago, but you will find it to be remarkably relevant to the struggles we are seeing in our country. He offers us a reminder, that as the people of God, we are to be “repairers of the breach.” Our role is not to just observe the chaos, nor to point fingers, but to be peacemakers within. All of us need encouragement this week to move beyond the anger and blame to a better place and God has set us up to do exactly that. You don’t want to miss this surprisingly timely message.

Also, don’t forget that we will be beginning our churchwide study on grace next week. We will be reminded that grace is the way that God works in our lives and in the world. But, to access this power, we need to understand the word. All too often, we tend to water it down, so we are going to do some work to deepen our grasp over the next six weeks.

Again, I look forward to joining you today with Rev. Dr. Powe, next week in our study, and most importantly, in prayer throughout these days for the struggles in our nation. – In Christ, Pastor Pete

“GRACE STILL WORKS” VISIONING STUDY JANUARY 17-FEBRUARY 14

You are invited to take part in a churchwide study, January 17-February 14, of the book “Grace Still Works” written by Rev. Dr. Pete Moon. Each week, the sermon will correspond to what we are learning in Sunday school and you will answer a survey our Church Council will use to establish a vision for Reveille in the coming years. The study is designed to help our congregation think about what we believe and put those beliefs to work in a way that changes us and our community. If you are not part of a Sunday school class or study group already, please sign up for a class now with Rev. Moon, Sundays on Zoom, January 17-February 14, at either 10:00 am or 5:00 pm. Learn more
