TODAY’S SERMON
It is five months ago this week, that we really entered into this time of distancing and quarantine. This is not an anniversary to celebrate but does offer occasion for reflection.
First, the creativity and spiritual persistence of our church and our people are a gift. This week, the staff and leadership of Reveille have been working every day to prepare for our first in person worship service which will be held outdoors on September 6. This is no small feat, requiring substantial preparation which will not only keep all of us safe but also continue our tradition here of consistently offering excellence in Christ centered worship in any service we offer.
Having said that, let’s also acknowledge that this is getting hard, especially hard given the fact that schools will soon be opening or not opening…at least for now. We are a few weeks out from several important things and so many things are still unclear.
This past week, the challenge was revealed in multiple conversations with folks in our church and outside of it. I spoke with several mothers who are going through very hard decisions about work and children and schooling. I spoke with one parent whose child is struggling deeply with the death of George Floyd and the restricted ability to see friends. We continue to seek ways to be in ministry with Swansboro.
We are five months in and remarkable work is being done but it is just hard. We are going to visit with a woman who was struggling some 2000 years ago with things that are similar to us. She made her way to Jesus and found hope and solid footing on uncertain terrain. I am praying that we can all learn from her and from the healing and hope in the Savior who met her. I look forward to joining you today for worship! – Lead Pastor Pete Moon
