TODAY’S SERMON

This week, we witnessed the inauguration of a new president at the U.S. Capitol.  Admittedly, we brought differing political perspectives as we observed the day, but I am praying that all of us, like me, were moved when Garth Brooks sang.  As you may know, he offered an inspiring, perhaps even holy rendition of “Amazing Grace.”  As he closed the song, he invited the whole country to sing with him as he led us in those moving lines: “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me…”

I may be a bit wide-eyed but I am still hopeful as I imagine a divided country somehow singing together about the powerful way of grace in the midst of our division and sin.  I like to think of the ways we are united in our common need and thirst for grace.  Somehow, we still believe that God can do in me and us what we simply cannot do for ourselves.  His song, and our response, offers a reminder that grace really does work and can move us when so many things cannot.

Today, we are going to continue our sermon series entitled “Grace Still Works” and we will arrive at the premier place where God makes this change in us, namely the cross.  The cross is sometimes hard to take in and difficult to understand but it is yet the place where God moves us and the world.  Please come and join us for worship this week.  We all need to understand how God does this, but even more, in this challenging national season, we all need to take in this amazing grace.  – In Christ, Pastor Pete

“GRACE STILL WORKS” VISIONING STUDY

Join us @ 10:00 am in Sunday School

You are invited to take part in a churchwide study of the book “Grace Still Works” written by Rev. Dr. Pete Moon, Sundays through February 14. Each week, the sermon will correspond to what we are learning in Sunday school and you will answer a survey our Church Council will use to establish a vision for Reveille in the coming years. The study is designed to help our congregation think about what we believe and put those beliefs to work in a way that changes us and our community. If you are not part of a Sunday school class or study group already, please sign up for a class now with Rev. Moon, Sundays on Zoom through February 14, at either 10:00 am or 5:00 pm. Learn more
