"Better Days Ahead:

Hope, Anticipation, and the Coming of Christ"

This has been a difficult year for the world and its people. Natural disasters have struck, as have acts of unspeakable violence. However, as Paul writes to the church at Thessalonica, those of us who believe are not "to grieve as a people without hope," for we are not only hopeful people but expectant people because God has come into the world in Jesus of Nazareth. This sermon series is an invitation to enter anew into this hope and expectation as we remember together what it means for the messiah to come to us.

About the Season of Advent

Advent is a season of four weeks including four Sundays. Advent derives from the Latin adventus, which means "coming." The season proclaims the coming of Jesus Christ—whose birth we prepare to celebrate at Christmas, who comes continually in word and sacrament, and whose return in final victory we anticipate. Purple is the color for paraments, stoles, and banners. Other special symbols used at Reveille UMC are the Advent wreath, an evergreen wreath with four purple candles and a center, white Christ candle, and the Chrismon tree, an evergreen tree covered with white monograms of Christ.
