Stewardship Ministry at Reveille
What is Stewardship?
The vision of Reveille United Methodist Church is a congregation formed by the love of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, a caring community of all ages committed to glorifying God through worship, to building Christian disciples through nurture and learning, and to using our gifts to make a difference in God’s world. Stewardship helps make that vision a reality.
Stewardship means using our time, talents and gifts in God’s service, advancing the work of God’s kingdom, enhancing Reveille’s ministries and activities. Stewardship is not fund raising. Recognizing that God is the source of everything we have, we are called to be good stewards of the gifts we have received.
Reveille uses the financial gifts of its members and friends to implement a variety of ministries that nurture the congregation and serve the broader community. As members, we have accepted the charge to participate faithfully in its ministries through our prayers, our presence, our service, our witness and our gifts.
Good stewardship is an outward sign of an inner commitment. We are encouraged to put God first and to reorder our priorities to reflect this commitment.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”Matthew 6:19-21
Our Stewardship Vows
“As a member of this congregation, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your service, your witness and your gifts?”
Each of us answered this question upon joining Reveille United Methodist Church. We are challenged to more closely examine this call to stewardship and determine how we can deepen our commitment to become better stewards of God’s gifts.
Prayer. No gift is greater than our relationship with God. Prayer is the spiritual discipline that changes faith from abstract belief into intimate experience.
Presence. We are encouraged to actively and continuously seek God’s presence wherever we may be, whether at home or while traveling. Like prayer, presence requires discipline and practice.
Service. We are called to use our time and talents in service to God, to our church and to our community. Reveille offers many ways to become involved and follow Christ’s example of love through humble service to others.
Witness. We have mission and evangelistic responsibilities as Reveille members. Through our words and actions, we are called to be witnesses in our community to the work of God’s kingdom.
Gifts. Our financial gifts reflect a measure of the grace and blessings God has shared with us. Through our gifts we uplift each other at Reveille and serve our broader community.
Stewardship through Giving
“But just as you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in our love of you — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7
Stewardship requires that we give our prayers, presence, service, witness — and our financial gifts. The act of giving — the willing return of a small part of what we have received — can reveal a glimpse of God’s grace.
How much should we give? Members are encouraged to prayerfully consider their gifts. Does our giving reflect our financial priorities? Does it reflect our spiritual growth? Is it done willingly, with a happy heart?
A 10-percent pledge is the biblical charge. First-time givers are asked to consider starting at 2 percent of their gross income and then add 1 percent each year. Use this worksheet and these tables as guides as you prayerfully consider your pledge.
How to Pledge
Pledge cards can be found in the pew racks in the chapel and sanctuary and are available at The Point worship service. They also can be obtained from the church office. Once you have made a pledge, you will be mailed a packet of dated offering envelopes for your use.
If you prefer, your offering can be debited automatically from your bank account on a monthly basis through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Contact Glynis Holcomb, Reveille’s financial manager, to complete an EFT Authorization form and begin the automatic debit. You can reach Glynis by phone at 359-6041, ext. 118, or holcomb@reveilleumc.org.
Some Reveille members and friends give regularly without pledging. Our financial gifts, whether or not they reflect a pledge, fund the church’s annual budget, which covers all aspects of Reveille’s operation — from the salaries of our pastors and staff to the maintenance of our physical plant to our worship services and outreach programs. The advantage of a pledge is that it enables staff to develop an accurate budget and plan more effectively to meet the needs of the church.
“Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
